Tuesday Take: White Wine for All Seasons

Put the myth about white wines being for spring and summer to rest.

From the southern coast of Sicily, Mandrarossa Grillo 2021 ($16.99) is a white wine for all occasions.

Grown in mountainous terrain and on hillsides, Grillo excelled in vineyards with ancient maritime material and sandy soil with a little clay. Mandrarossa Grillo 2021 ($16.99) had Meyer Lemon on the nose and was a medium bodied white with Meyer lemon and pear flavors.

It’s an ideal pairing for a white fish dinner, salads and cheeses.

Printed atop the Casal Garcia label is the phrase “young and refreshing,” and it fits the Portugeese Vinho Verde ($10) so well. At 9.5% alcohol it’s a slightly fizzy, light bodied white with lemon, grapefruit and lime zest flavors. It’s a go-to-party starter and another example of why the temperature outside shouldn’t dictate the color of the wine in your glass.
